USF Department of OB/GYN

I'm currently working as an Assistant Professor in the University of South Florida Physician Assistant Program. On Fridays, I continue to provide care to patients that require same day (acute care) appointments for USF Family Medicine.

I grew up in California and Oregon enjoying beaches and the mountains. After high school I began my medical career in the United States Air Force as a Medic, serving at home and abroad. From there I earned my Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of South Florida. I practiced as a bedside nurse for 5 years while going back to school to earn my doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner, also from USF. I then joined the team hear at USF Internal Medicine and Pediatrics where I have been proudly serving this community since 2020.

My constant goal is to practice with a high level of integrity, supportive care, and cultural competence. I believe it is my professional responsibility to promote caring service delivery by listening to the concerns of the patient and of the referring provider. Assessments are conducted with current, "gold standard" instruments and models of interpretation and treatment planning. It is my hope to improve the quality of our patient's lives irrespective of the concern or treatment needs

Dr. Murray Shames is the Chair of the Department of Surgery and serves as Professor and Chief for the Division of Vascular Surgery at the USF Health Morsani School of Medicine. Dr. Shames received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University and completed his surgery residency at the USF College of Medicine. He completed his training with a vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Sydney and a vascular disease fellowship at the Washington University St. Louis School of Medicine. Dr. Shames has received the annual Tampa's Best Doctor award four times since 2017.

Jeanne A. Peter is a tenured, dedicated and self-motivated critical care/hospitalist nurse practitioner. She received a Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and earned both her Bachelor of Science and Associate of Science in Nursing from St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg, Florida. Peter has spent her career providing comprehensive and compassionate care to diverse groups of patients while working collaboratively with physicians, nurses and other clinical staff members to achieve overall health care goals. As a critical care nurse practitioner at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital-North in Lutz, Florida, she was responsible for managing patient caseloads in MSICU and CTICU, overseeing ICU admissions and downgrades, as well as working with physicians and interdisciplinary staff members to streamline clinical processes, achieve health care goals and improve patient outcomes. Her areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, nursing and assisting, critical and acute care, patient advocacy, physician relations, clinical management, treatment planning, and emergency response.
