Erik Geoffrey Hayman, MD

As an expert on the USF Health Department of Neurosurgery team, Dr. Hayman provides the most advanced spine care and surgical techniques to patients in the region's only academic medical center. Dr. Hayman joined USF Health after completing his complex and minimally invasive spine surgery fellowship at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle, Washington. He completed his residency training at the University of Maryland and received his MD from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is a board-eligible neurosurgeon and is licensed in the states of Florida and Washington.
Dr. Hayman has a significant research portfolio and maintains a research interest in secondary injury mechanisms after central nervous system (CNS) injury. During his time at the University of Colorado, he was awarded a prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellowship to pursue a dedicated year of tumor immunology research at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City. He has published over 15 peer reviewed research articles and authored multiple book chapters on brain and spine conditions. Dr. Hayman will continue his research endeavors at USF Health by working closely with the USF Health Center for Aging and Brain Repair, collaborating on key research funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Trained in all aspects of brain and spine surgery, Dr. Hayman has a particular focus in disorders of the spine requiring complex reconstructive procedures, including thoracolumbar scoliosis, revision spinal surgery, and cervical kyphosis. He has additional clinical interests in motion preserving surgery and minimally invasive procedures.

Puya Alikhani, MD

Dr. Alikhani is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon with special emphasis on minimally invasive spine surgery for treatment of complex spinal disorders including scoliosis, trauma, fractures, tumor, neck and leg pain and degenerative spinal pathologies. He operates on challenging cases such as degenerative scoliosis, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, flat back deformity, chin on chest syndrome, complex cervical, and revision surgeries. He also manages patients with spinal cord tumors as well as peripheral nerve disease such as carpal tunnel syndrome and ulnar nerve entrapment. Dr. Alikhani works with a well-trained multidisciplinary team which includes nurse practitioners, physical therapists and pain management physicians to help deliver the best care for his patients. Having published several papers on minimally invasive approaches to spine surgery, Dr. Alikhani has a strong passion for teaching and is constantly involved with multiple research projects. He also lectures on spinal disorders both domestically and internationally.
