Sanjay Raj Jain, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Sanjay Jain is amongst the new faculty members to join Medical University of South Carolina as a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Jain is a medical oncologist with 26 years of academic and clinical experience. He is interested in the provision of clinical services to patients that are unquestionably and unconditionally par excellence. He's a firm believer that patient satisfaction should be a key measure of success and patient outcomes should be superior to national and international benchmarks. Dr. Jain was born in Kota, Rajasthan, India. He received his M.B., B.S. (Medicine and Surgery) from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, India, and was recognized as the best Intern at Maharao Bhim Singh Hospital. He obtained his M.S. degree and his Ph.D., both in immunology, from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Dr. Jain's residency training in the United States took place at Miriam Hospital, Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and he also did a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to coming to Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Jain served as an Assistant Professor at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, Assistant Professor at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center of Harvard Medical School, Chairman of the Department of Hematology and Oncology at Tawam Hospital, in affiliation with Johns Hopkins in the United Arab Emirates, and Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University, and then most recently as an Associate Professor at Morehouse School of Medicine. He has also served as a medical oncologist and a reviewer of first-in-human trials at the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research at the Food and Drug Administration since 2021.

Dr. Dauren Adilbay is a head and neck surgeon at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina, specializing in thyroid cancer, parathyroid surgery, oral cancer, salivary gland tumors, and microvascular reconstruction. With over 15 years of experience and advanced fellowship training, he provides expert, compassionate care for patients across South Carolina and the Southeast.
He completed his surgical training in Kazakhstan and Russia, followed by advanced training at world-renowned cancer centers in Milan, Paris, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He then completed a Head Neck and Microvascular Reconstruction fellowship at LSU Health Shreveport.
At MUSC, Dr. Adilbay treats, thyroid and parathyroid diseases, oral and oropharyngeal cancers (robotic surgery), laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers, salivary gland tumors sialoendoscopy, skin cancers of the face and neck, and reconstructive surgery and free flap reconstruction.
Dr. Adilbay is also a national leader in fluorescence-guided surgery and nerve imaging research, helping improve cancer detection and surgical outcomes. His work is published internationally, and he has served on the executive boards of IFHNOS and the Asian Pacific Thyroid Surgery Society.

Michael Richard Bobian, M.D.

About
Dr. Michael Bobian is a dedicated and experienced Head and Neck Surgical Oncologist and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgeon at the Medical University of South Carolina. He specializes in caring for patients with tumors involving the head and neck, including the throat, tonsils, mouth, jaw, voice box, skin, sinuses, skull base, thyroid, and salivary glands. He is adept at using minimally invasive and robotic techniques and has unique training in whole body and head and neck reconstruction with expertise in microvascular reconstruction, also known as free flaps.
Dr. Bobian graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Biology from Michigan Technological University and completed his medical school training at Wayne State University School of Medicine in inner-city Detroit, MI, where he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. He then completed his residency in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery in Charleston, SC at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he served as Chief Resident and was awarded Head and Neck Resident of the Year. He gained further training through fellowships in head and neck surgical oncology and whole-body microvascular reconstruction at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.
Now, as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Dr. Bobian brings his experience back to South Carolina. In addition to his clinical focus, he is committed to the education of surgical Otolaryngology residents and fellows, and research. His research interests include pre-surgery chemotherapy and/or immunotherapy for patients afflicted with advanced oropharyngeal and skin cancers, and in maximizing and restoring function, and minimizing morbidity following free flap reconstruction in the head and neck. His research has been supported by the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Foundation and he has authored over 20 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
He is board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, and is credentialed by the American Head and Neck Society to perform transoral robotic surgery. Dr. Bobian utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach whenever possible, working closely with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, dermatologists, endocrinologists, speech pathologists, maxillofacial prosthetists, dentists, oral surgeons, neurosurgeons, thoracic surgeons, and other otolaryngologists to develop a tailored and unique treatment plan for each patient.
