John Thomas Smith, M.D., MS

Dr. John Thomas Smith is a board-certified Obstetrician Gynecologist with over 20 years' experience. He is a native of Texas and attended Texas Tech University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science. He received his medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Medicine in Lubbock Texas. He then completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency training at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi Mississippi. Dr. Smith proudly served in the Air Force for nine years on active duty before joining the private sector.
Dr. Smith has joined MUSC and provides comprehensive obstetrics and gynecology services. He specializes in a full range of obstetrics, including low- risk and high-risk pregnancies, laparoscopic and outpatient surgical procedures, office procedures, fibroids, endometriosis, abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, menopause, birth control, sterilization and abnormal pap smears. He treats all aspects of sexual health, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence and infertility, and he offers preventive services, including annual examinations, cervical screenings and breast examinations.
Dr. Smith is committed to providing evidence-based medicine to help women achieve optimal outcomes. He believes the doctor-patient relationship should be collaborative and he strives to provide personalized, individual care to each and everyone of his patients. Outside of work, Dr. Smith loves spending time with his wife, 3 grown children and their 2 dogs. They enjoy traveling and being outdoors hiking, running, biking and camping.

Staci Polk, PA-C

Staci Polk is a Certified Physician Associate with a special interest in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Presbyterian College in 2016. She then earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at South College in Knoxville, TN in 2019. She has had educational experience in OBGYN, Primary Care, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, and Trauma Surgery. Staci also has 2 years of clinical experience in outpatient Gastroenterology. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and licensed by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners. Staci enjoys developing patient and provider relationships and is passionate about and committed to providing high-quality, individualized care to each of her patients.

Gregory Miller, M.D.

About
Dr. Miller grew up outside of Richmond, Virginia. He received his BA in history from the College of William and Mary. After graduation, he spent a year in Europe competing on the professional tennis circuit. He then received his MD from the Medical College of Virginia. Finally, he completed his residency in OB/GYN at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He then traveled to Camp Lejeune, NC where he spent three years as a Navy physician with the Marine Corps. He was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for his service. Following his military service, he spent the next 18 years in private practice in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He left Rock Hill for Beaufort, South Carolina to develop a new and successful OB/GYN practice for the local hospital.
In Beaufort, Dr. Miller provided a broad range of obstetrical and gynecologic services. He also served as chairman of the department of OB/GYN and on several leadership committees including the Executive Committee and the Medical Staff Performance Improvement Committee.
Throughout his career, he has enjoyed providing a wide range of obstetrical and gynecologic services to his patients. He especially enjoys delivering babies and has delivered close to 10,000 wonderful babies. He also enjoys performing a wide range of surgical procedures including using the da Vinci robot for minimally invasive hysterectomies. Other interests in women's health services include the management of birth control, hormones, menopause, infertility, and urinary incontinence. Dr. Miller is excited to bring his expertise and skills to Lancaster.

Stephen McNeil Coarsey, M.D.

Dr. Coarsey has over 30 years of experience as an OB/GYN. Originally from Georgia, he graduated from Emory University and the Medical College of Georgia, then completed his residency at Bowman Gray School of Medicine (Wake Forest) at NC Baptist Hospital. For 35 years, he practiced as a solo OBGYN in Statesville, NC, which included being the OB/GYN medical consultant at the Iredell County Health Department. He was one of four people who started a free indigent clinic in Statesville, which still continues today.
In 2016, he made a career change and became the medical director of Natural Beginnings Birth Center, supervising six nurse midwives while continuing to serve his own patients and provide care for complicated midwife patients. After the closure of his local hospital in 2022, he continues as the medical consultant for the midwifery practice in Statesville. Dr. Coarsey joined MUSC Health in June 2023.
Dr. Coarsey has a lifetime of experience dealing with high-risk pregnancy, gynecologic surgery, and infertility. He is married with three adult children and says delivering a healthy baby is the best part of any day. He believes it is important to integrate common-sense experience with modern medical tools and knowledge for the best outcomes.

Allison Newton, FNP

Allison Newton is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a strong dedication to women's health. She earned both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2016) and Master of Science in Nursing (2023) from the University of South Carolina, where she focused her graduate studies on Family Practice.
Allison's passion for women's health began early in her career and was deepened by eight years of experience as a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse. Today, she provides comprehensive care to women at every stage of life - from puberty and fertility to postpartum, menopause, and beyond. She believes in the importance of forming meaningful, individualized patient-provider relationships to ensure each patient receives the highest quality of care tailored to their unique needs.
A proud native of Lancaster, Allison feels honored to serve the community she has always called home. She and her high school sweetheart, also a Lancaster native, are raising their two sons in the area and are deeply committed to giving back to their hometown.
Allison is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Outside of her clinical work, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, crafting, beach trips, and cheering on the South Carolina Gamecocks!

Ivanna Ross, PA-C

Ivanna J. Ross, MSPAS, PA-C, is a native of Lorain, Ohio. She is a 2022 Medical University of South Carolina College of Health Professions Physician Assistant program graduate. During her time at MUSC, she was a student advocate and member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants as well as the African Heritage Physician Assistant Caucus. PA Ross was also a mentor to pre-PA students and first-year PA students. She has served as a volunteer for the Physician Assistant Education Association virtual career fairs and information sessions geared toward pre-physician assistant students. PA Ross developed a love for obstetrics and gynecology on rotation at Lancaster Women's Health.
Her primary interests are maternal-fetal medicine, gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, fetal anomalies, cervical disorders, and medical research. PA Ross is passionate about increasing access to care as well as decreasing maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality.
In addition to her training as a physician assistant, PA Ross holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering Mechanics with a minor in Applied Mathematics from the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio (2018). She is a current member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and enjoys travel, gardening, and crafting.
