Genetics

About

Dr. Kristen Lancaster is a board-certified medical geneticist and pediatrician who cares for children and adults with suspected or known genetic conditions. She has particular interests in craniofacial differences and congenital anomalies, chromosomal conditions, skeletal dysplasias, and vascular and overgrowth conditions. Dr. Lancaster believes that genetics is about more than finding a diagnosis. She works closely with patients and families to help them understand what a genetic diagnosis means, what to expect over time, and how to navigate the medical care that may come with it. As both a geneticist and a pediatrician, she brings a broad perspective to her patients' care and works closely with their medical teams to coordinate care and provide continuity as their needs change. She is also particularly interested in how new and emerging therapies are changing what is possible for people with genetic conditions. At MUSC, Dr. Lancaster serves as the Clinical Geneticist for several multidisciplinary programs, including the Cleft and Craniofacial Center, Pediatric Cancer Predisposition Clinic, and Vascular Anomalies program. She is also passionate about medical education and has helped develop MUSC's new Medical Genetics and Genomics residency program, where she will serve as the inaugural Program Director. Dr. Lancaster is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medical Genetics and Genomics and Director of Medical Genetics Education at MUSC. She earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, completed her General Pediatrics residency and Chief Residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and completed fellowship training in Medical Genetics and Genomics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
