Michael Hook, M.D.

About
Dr. Michael Hook is a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist and assistance progressor in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology. He graduated medical school from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. He then moved to Texas to complete his pediatric residency at the University of Texas Southwestern, then to California to complete his fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. He then moved to Charleston after completing his fellowship. While Dr. Hook treats all type of pediatric gastroenterological conditions, he is also engaged as part of multidisciplinary care in the Intestinal Rehabilitation Program Clinic and Cystic Fibrosis Clinic at MUSC. Dr. Hook enjoys understanding a patient's story and how it informs effective care.

Benjamin Robert Kuhn, D.O.

About
Dr. Ben Kuhn is the MUSC Children's Health division chief and professor of pediatric gastroenterology. A native Pennsylvanian, Dr. Kuhn moved to New York for his undergraduate studies at Cornell University, with a focus on genetics and development. He attended medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by pediatric residency at the Penn State University Children's Hospital. Dr. Kuhn then completed a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Prior to joining MUSC Children's Health, Dr. Kuhn was at Geisinger in Pennsylvania for over a decade, where he was a pediatric gastroenterologist and served as a regional director of pediatrics for the system. Dr. Kuhn also chaired the pediatric patient experience committee. Dr. Kuhn specializes in allergic gastrointestinal conditions, specifically Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE), and launched the MUSC Children's Health Center for Eosinophilic Disorders, where he serves as director. Having published numerous peer-reviewed articles on this topic and ongoing research contributions, Dr. Kuhn authored the North American Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) Society's board review textbook chapter on EoE. Dr. Kuhn adds that he enjoys collaborating with families to care for their children andwatching them grow into young adults over time.

Kristin Capone, M.D.

About
Dr. Kristin Capone is a board certified pediatric gastroenterologist and assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology. She graduated medical school from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. She then stayed in New York to complete her pediatric residency and chief residency at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore before moving on to pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Capone practiced pediatric gastroenterology in New Jersey for 5 years prior to moving to Charleston. Although she treats all pediatric gastrointestinal issues, her clinical interest is in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and she works in the MUSC Pediatric IBD clinic.

Jennifer Beall, PNP, MSN, RN

Jennifer Beall is a pediatric nurse practitioner in the Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Department at MUSC. She earned her master's degree in Pediatric Primary Care at MUSC's College of Nursing in 1998. She is board certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Jennifer has worked in the pediatric GI division since September of 2012 and is a member of the Association of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Nurses. Jennifer takes care children with a variety of general gastrointestinal disorders including celiac disease, chronic abdominal pain, constipation, encopresis, GERD, Eosinophilic Esophagitis, and failure to thrive. She has a special clinical interest in the area of bowel management.

Carmine Suppa, DO is a physician in the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at MUSC Children's Health. He joined the department after completing a general pediatrics residency and pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at Cohen Children's Medical Center of New York/Northwell Health. Dr. Suppa grew up in New York near where he completed his training but now calls Charleston home.Dr. Suppa cares for children with general gastrointestinal issues including but not limited to: constipation, reflux, peptic disease, short gut, difficulty swallowing, eosinophilic esophagitis, celiac disease, functional GI disorders, liver disease, and nutritional deficiencies. He has a particular area of focus in the field of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and is director of MUSC's pediatric IBD clinic.
