Stephen Fann, M.D. is a fellowship-trained general and acute care surgeon in Charleston, South Carolina. He specializes in treating all types of abdominal wall hernias; ventral, incisional, inguinal, flank, and parastomal hernias. He also has expertise with complex wounds such as chronic mesh infections and intestinal fistulae.Dr. Fann performs both open abdominal wall reconstructions as well as robotic and minimally invasive hernia surgery to afford patients all potential options for their hernia repair. He strives to match each patients unique anatomy to the best hernia repair for that individual. With twenty years experience in skeletal muscle tissue engineering, Dr. Fann strives to move hernia care forward through applications of regenerative medicine and better biomaterials. He received his medical degree at the Body School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina and performed his critical care fellowship in Columbia, South Carolina. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and maintains certification in Surgical Critical Care. He speaks nationally on topics of hernia repair trauma and acute care surgery.

Dr. Alicia Privette is a fellowship-trained trauma and acute care surgeon in Charleston, South Carolina. She specializes in the care of both critically ill patients and patients with traumatic injuries. She has extensive knowledge of how to manage complex injuries and delivers compassionate care to help her trauma patients through their journey of recovery. Dr. Privette is also a general surgeon experienced in minimally invasive procedures to treat patients with hernias and other complex general surgery issues. She is recognized as a leader in trauma care. She is a member of both the Western Trauma Association (WTA) and the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST). In addition, Dr. Privette is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. When not treating patients, Dr. Privette serves the Medical University of South Carolina as the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program Director. She is also an instructor in Advanced Trauma Life Support Training, and mentors surgical residents on trauma/critical care issues and fellowship opportunities.Her research focuses on various aspects of trauma and critical care, including improving patient care coordination through the development of a smart phone application to streamline communication and teamwork during trauma care. She also participates in multicenter research studies through her affiliation with various surgical societies. Dr. Privette received her medical degree from the University of Utah. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Vermont and attended the University of California San Francisco for her fellowship training in trauma and critical care.

Dr. Evert Eriksson is a general surgeon who specializes in injuries to the chest wall as well as complex hernia repair. He strives to provide the best operative and non-operative treatment plan for these difficult problems. Each patient's problem is unique and requires a unique treatment plan to obtain the best outcome and recovery. He offers both virtual telehealth clinic visits as well as in-person clinic visit options. Over ten years ago, Dr. Eriksson began improving the operative and non-operative management of rib and sternal fractures at MUSC. A non-operative treatment plan was developed to minimize narcotic use and decrease patients time in the hospital. Through research at MUSC and in conjunction with the Chest Wall Injury Society, he has decreased patients pain and improved their recovery. Currently we offer patients with rib fractures modern day management of rib and sternal fractures including: surgical stabilization, medical management, ultrasound therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and pain management. He also manages patients with nonunion / malunion fractures and fractures that did not heal completely. Additionally, he has treated several patients with slipped rib syndrome and rib tip syndrome. His hernia practice consists of thoracic and abdominal wall hernias. Dr. Eriksson offers both open and laparoscopic repair of ventral and flank (side) hernias. He has performed several complex ventral hernia repairs with the addition of botox therapy to relax the muscles. He also specializes in traumatic hernias from injury. He also manages costal margin injuries that are a special type of hernia that involves the abdomen and chest.
