John E. Aruny, M.D.
Interventional Radiology
About
John Aruny, MD, is an interventional radiologist with more than 25 years of clinical and
academic experience, specializing in dialysis access and advanced vascular care. Throughout his
career, he has been recognized for both his leadership in the field and his commitment to
improving outcomes for patients requiring complex interventional procedures.
Dr. Aruny spent nearly two decades at Yale University School of Medicine, where he served as
co-director of vascular and interventional radiology and practiced as a diagnostic, vascular, and
interventional radiologist from 1999 to 2018. During his tenure at Yale, he played a vital role in
advancing interventional techniques, training residents and fellows, and conducting research to
expand treatment options in vascular medicine. He also served as principal investigator for the
FLEX Arteriovenous Access Registry, underscoring his contributions to clinical innovation.
He completed his fellowship in cardiovascular and interventional radiology at Brigham and
Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School, his residency in diagnostic radiology at New York
Medical College, and his internship in internal medicine at Booth Memorial Medical Center/New
York University.
A past president of the Vascular Access Society of the Americas (VASA), Dr. Aruny has been
honored with national awards, including recognition in America's Top Doctors and the inaugural
Shari Ullman Gold Medal Lecturer Award from the Association of Vascular and Interventional
Radiographers.

Mark J. London, M.D.
Nephrology
About
Board-certified surgeon, Dr. Mark J. London joined the team at the MUSC Health - Orangeburg Dialysis Access Institute in 2017 and presently serves as a vascular access surgeon and the institute's medical director.
Dr. London completed his medical degree at St. Matthews University School of Medicine before further honing his skills through a surgical internship and residency at the University of Chicago.
Among his considerable contributions to the field, Dr. London's greatest impact perhaps lies in his dedication to research and innovation within dialysis access. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed articles, helping to advance understanding and knowledge in the changing landscape of dialysis care. Dr. London is also the Principal Investigator on numerous clinical trials with the aim of improving the techniques and devices used for dialysis access procedures. Furthermore, Dr. London and his team expend significant effort in training medical professionals from around the world. They deliver valuable lessons on dialysis procedures, devices, and equipment, as well as on types of dialysis accesses and interventions. His commitment not only to his patients but also to vascular access education signifies his conviction to improve patient outcomes both locally and globally.
Dr. London was recently appointed to the faculty of MUSC as an affiliate assistant professor.

John R. Ross, M.D.
Nephrology
About
John Ross, MD, FACS, is a distinguished surgical educator with more than 30 years of
experience in dialysis access procedures for patients with kidney failure. As the founding
physician of the Dialysis Access Institute, he has dedicated his career to advancing vascular
access for hemodialysis, developing innovative devices and procedures, and promoting
alternative approaches to access management. He and his team pioneered a comprehensive
access care program that integrates patient care with physician and community education.
Dr. Ross earned his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of South
Carolina School of Medicine. He began his career as a general surgeon before specializing in
dialysis access research and surgical procedures.
A founding member and first vice president of the Vascular Access Society of America, Dr. Ross
has been at the forefront of national clinical trials and research initiatives. He has authored
numerous peer-reviewed articles and contributed to several textbooks, including Rutherford's
Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy. In addition, he serves on the editorial board of The
Journal of Vascular Access and the editorial advisory board of Endovascular Today.
Dr. Ross has been recognized as South Carolina's only surgeon designated as a member of the
American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgeon Educators. His professional
certifications include the American Board of Surgery, the American Society of Diagnostic and
Interventional Nephrology, and fellowship in the American College of Surgeons.
