Kristin Capone, M.D.
Pediatric Gastroenterology
About
Dr. Kristin Capone is a board certified pediatric gastroenterologist and assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology. She graduated medical school from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. She then stayed in New York to complete her pediatric residency and chief residency at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore before moving on to pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Capone practiced pediatric gastroenterology in New Jersey for 5 years prior to moving to Charleston. Although she treats all pediatric gastrointestinal issues, her clinical interest is in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and she works in the MUSC Pediatric IBD clinic.

George Hamilton Baker, M.D.
Pediatric Cardiology
About
Dr. Baker is a congenital cardiologist who is dual board certified in pediatric and adult congenital heart disease, as well as fellowship trained in interventional cardiology. He received his B.S. in biology from the University of Michigan, his M.D. from Albany Medical College and all his postgraduate medical training at the Medical University of South Carolina where he is an associate professor. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed journal publication, over 50 published abstracts and holds a U.S. patent in image guided surgery. He has extensive experience in multi-institutional, translational medical research in areas such as medical device testing, multiscale modeling and image guidance system development. His current focus is in applied artificial intelligence in medicine including the application of machine learning, deep learning, computer vision and other related AI tools. He recently started the MUSC AI Hub to serve as an interest group and contact point for those interested in artificial intelligence at MUSC.In the clinical setting he enjoys taking care of kids and adults with congenital heart disease.

Erin Kristen Balog, M.D.
Pediatrics
About
Dr. Erin K. Balog is a general pediatrician. She grew up on the coast, just south of Boston, MA. After attending Bowdoin College in Maine, she worked in a hospital-based lab focused on cancer genetics for three years before attending medical school at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine. During medical school, she accepted a Navy scholarship, and completed her training in Pediatrics at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Her initial duty station after residency was at the Naval Hospital in Charleston, SC where she took care of service member dependents, active duty and retired, for three years. She then accepted a teaching assignment at the military medical school, USUHS, in Bethesda, MD where she was stationed for eight years.
Upon leaving the military, she returned to Charleston with her family, and has been working in private practice before joining the General Pediatrics team at MUSC. Her professional interests include evaluating and treating pediatric mental health conditions, newborn medicine and breastfeeding, and medical education.

Lauren Thompson, D.O.
Pediatric Genetics
About
Dr. Lauren Thompson is a clinical and medical biochemical geneticist. She earned her medical degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Dr. Thompson completed a combined residency program in pediatrics and medical genetics at University Hospital Cleveland Medical Center - Rainbow Babies Children's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. She then pursued a fellowship in medical biochemical genetics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. Her clinical interests include inborn errors of metabolism and medical education.
Dr. Thompson is board-certified in clinical genetics, medical biochemical genetics, and general pediatrics. She has published her work in peer-reviewed journals and regularly presents at national medical conferences. She currently serves as Director of Genetic Inpatient Services and the Rapid Sequencing Program at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), and as Vice Chair of the Education \& Continuing Professional Development Committee for the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG). Dr. Thompson is deeply committed to medical education and is actively involved in teaching residents, medical students, and genetic counseling students.
