Josh Whibley, PA, is a non-surgical orthopaedic and sports medicine physician's assistant. He specializes in diagnosing and managing musculoskeletal sports injuries, including fractures, sprains, arthritis, tendon injuries, and exercise-related illnesses. Josh treats these issues with medications, injections, physical therapy, bracing, and other options. He is trained in performing ultrasound-guided injections, including cortisone, biologics such as platelet-rich plasma (PCR), and viscosupplement injections. He attended the College of Charleston for his undergraduate degree and then graduated with a master of science in Physician Assistant Studies from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2015. Since then, Josh has worked with the shoulder and elbow team in the Department of Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. Additionally, he is married with two children and enjoys being active in his free time. His favorite hobbies include surfing at his favorite beach and snowboarding out West.

Dr. Matthew K. Stein is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in total hip and knee replacement surgery. He is a fellowship-trained adult reconstructive surgeon with expertise in total hip arthroplasty, total knee arthroplasty, partial knee replacement and revision procedures for both the hip and knee. Dr. Stein's journey in medicine began at Georgetown University, where he earned a Master of Science in Biophysics \& Physiology before completing his Doctor of Medicine degree also at Georgetown. He then completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Following his residency, he pursued advanced fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction at Duke University Hospital. Throughout his career, Dr. Stein has been dedicated to improving patient care and advancing the field of orthopaedic surgery. He has been recognized for his research including multiple awards. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, covering a range of topics from hip fracture care and joint infection to resident leadership training and the mental health of orthopaedic surgeons. He has also been an editor for The University of Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Journal. Dr. Stein's commitment to leadership is evident in his experience as an Inaugural Resident for the McNulty Leadership Program at Wharton and his participation in the Wharton Leadership Program in Orthopaedic Surgery multiple times. He has also given lectures on topics such as cemented prostheses, implant design, and leadership. His diverse experience and commitment to leadership and research demonstrate his dedication to providing the best possible care for his patients.

Brandon L. Rogalski, M.D. is an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina, specializing in operative and non-operative treatment of shoulder and elbow injuries of athletes, children, adolescents, and adults of all ages. He is an expert in minimally invasive arthroscopic and open surgery of the shoulder and elbow. He has expertise in advanced shoulder and elbow reconstructive surgery, including shoulder replacement surgery, rotator cuff tear surgery, shoulder instability and labral tear surgery, elbow arthroscopy, and elbow ligament reconstruction and repair. Dr. Rogalski's practice leverages advanced imaging modalities to create personalized treatment plans for shoulder and elbow reconstructive surgery. He uses cutting-edge techniques for sports injuries, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), ultrasound, and up-and-coming physical therapy and rehabilitation techniques such as blood flow restriction (BFR) therapy and cryotherapy. Dr. Rogalski attended Washington University in St. Louis, where he received his B.A. and graduated with honors in the Department of Political Science. While at Washington University, he played on both the varsity football and baseball teams, where he was a two-time NCAA All-American and Academic All-American pitcher and outfielder. He then completed medical school at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society and graduated in the top of his class, earning multiple academic awards. Dr. Rogalski completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Rothman Orthopedic Institute at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA where he worked closely with the team doctors taking care of the Philadelphia Eagles (NFL), Phillies (MLB) and 76ers (NBA). Following residency, he completed a fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at Columbia University in New York City. The fellowship, founded in 1977 by Dr. Charles S. Neer II, is honored as the first and most prestigious program of its kind in the world. During his fellowship, he served as a Fellow Team Physician with the New York Yankees (MLB) baseball team, where he worked directly with the Head Team Physician, Dr. Christopher Ahmad, assessing and operating on numerous professional athletes throughout the year. Dr. Rogalski's special areas of interest include total joint replacement surgery of the shoulder and elbow; surgical and non-surgical treatment of all shoulder and elbow disorders; sports medicine for overhead and throwing athletes, including baseball, softball, tennis, track \& field, and golf; and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, and scapula. He also has expertise in revision surgery for previously failed shoulder and elbow procedures and proficiency in treating upper extremity fractures, including the proximal humerus, collarbone (clavicle), scapula, humerus, elbow, and forearm. Dr. Rogalski has a passion for research and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on various topics related to shoulder, elbow, and sports medicine surgery. Dr. Rogalski's ongoing research is focused on improving patient outcomes by improving the longevity and durability of shoulder arthroplasty implants, identifying and minimizing the effect of shoulder prosthetic joint infections, and improving ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) surgery outcomes in throwing athletes. He is an active and engaged member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES).

W. Michael Pullen, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon with a clinical focus in sports medicine. Dr. Pullen is an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. Prior to joining MUSC, Dr. Pullen served as an orthopaedic surgeon and Lieutenant Commander in the United Stated Navy. Dr. Pullen received his undergraduate degree from Christopher Newport University and his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA. He then went on to complete his orthopaedic residency training at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. Following his residency training, he served as a staff orthopaedic surgeon in Yokosuka Japan as senior medical officer for the Department of Orthopedics. Following this, he was recruited to re-join the faculty at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth as a sports surgeon at the tertiary referral center and surgeon-training program. While there, he served as the assistant residency director and helped care for the east coast Naval Special Warfare (SEAL) team. Dr. Pullen also served as the sole orthopaedic surgeon on a 6-month humanitarian deployment on the USNS Comfort (Hospital Ship) in support of Operation Enduring Promise. There, he provided orthopaedic care in 14 countries in Central and South America. Finally, he completed his fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at Stanford University. Dr. Pullen has helped in the care of athletes of all levels, including high school, amateur, collegiate, professional, and Olympic athletes. Dr. Pullen is currently a member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), the Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons (SOMOS), and the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters, presenting his research at local, national, and international meetings. His academic interests are in resident education and his research has focused on knee instability (ACL injury) and hip impingement. Dr. Pullen specializes in the advanced arthroscopic (minimally invasive) and open treatment of conditions of the shoulder, knee, and hip. He has considerable experience in shoulder instability, rotator cuff disorders, biceps disorders, meniscus injuries, cartilage injuries and restoration, knee ligament injuries including anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI or hip impingement), and hip labral tears.

Dr. Daniel Scott is an orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeon at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Scott has extensive experience in total ankle replacements, sports injuries in athletes, post-traumatic reconstruction, fracture care, and complex deformity correction as well as advanced minimally invasive and joint preserving treatment options. As a native of the Carolinas, Dr. Scott graduated with a combined M.D. and MBA degree from Duke University, and went on to complete an orthopaedic surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center. Following this, he completed a fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. While at Duke, he was a resident team physician for Duke University athletics, as well as North Carolina Central and Northern High School. Throughout his training, Dr. Scott has received numerous awards for leadership and research. He has been published in a many nationally renowned peer-reviewed journals and has been selected as a reviewer for multiple journals. His work has been presented at numerous local, regional, national, and international meetings.

Brent A. Ponce, MD, is Professor and Vice Chair of Faculty Development in the MUSC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and PM\&R. He is from Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Cincinnati. He attended Vanderbilt University School of Medicine on an Air Force scholarship and completed a surgical internship at Wright State University \& Wright Patterson Air Force Base. After serving as a flight surgeon in Columbus, Mississippi, he went to Boston, MA for orthopaedic surgery residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program. He completed his shoulder fellowship at Harvard at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham \& Women's Hospitals under the mentorship of Drs. JP Warner and Peter Millett. He fulfilled his military commitment at the Air Force Academy where he also served as the team physician for the men's basketball program and was deployed to Iraq as part of OEF/OIF. In 2006, Dr. Ponce joined the faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he rose to Professor and Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs and Director of the Orthopaedic Skills Lab. In 2021, he joined the Hughston Clinic where he was Chair of Research for the Hughston Foundation. In October 2025, he joined the MUSC Shoulder and Elbow Service. Dr. Ponce currently serves as the Chair of AO Sports helping to educate surgeons all over the world. He is also the founder of the Collaborative of Orthopaedic Educational Research Group (COERG), a large multi-center collaborative focusing on resident education and faculty development research. Academically, Dr. Ponce has published \~200 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Ponce is a member of several orthopaedic societies including the: American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, and American Shoulder and Elbow Society. Dr. Ponce specializes in all conditions involving the shoulder including: fractures, arthritis/replacements, rotator cuff tears, and shoulder dislocations.

Dr. Thomas Moran is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and minimally invasive procedures to restore joint function. He has extensive experience treating athletes and active individuals with knee, shoulder, hip, and elbow injuries, including ACL tears and ligamentous knee injuries, meniscus tears, cartilage damage, shoulder instability, rotator cuff injuries, and shoulder arthritis. Dr. Moran is originally from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, where he grew up on a family farm. He earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where he also completed his orthopaedic surgery residency. During residency, he assisted in taking care of the University of Virginia men's and women's athletes. He then pursued advanced fellowship training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush in Chicago, IL, where he served as an assistant team physician for the Chicago White Sox (MLB) and Chicago Bulls (NBA). In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Moran is dedicated to research and education, with an extensive number of publications on knee ligament reconstruction, shoulder injuries, and joint preservation techniques. He has served as a team physician for high school, collegiate, and professional sports teams, ensuring athletes receive top-tier care from injury through recovery. Dr. Moran believes in a personalized approach to patient care, helping individuals regain mobility and return to the activities they love. Tyler Bartolazzi, PAC, is a non surgical orthopaedic physician assistant. He specializes in managing patients with knee and hip pain as well as optimizing them for arthroplasty surgery. Tyler treats these issues with ultrasound guided injections, physical therapy, bracing and other options. He attended University of Wisconsin for his undergraduate degree and then graduated with a master of science in Physician Assistant Studies from South College, Knoxville. You can find Tyler playing rec league soccer, volleyball on the beach or walking his dogs with his fiancé around Charleston.

Dr. Erik Hansen is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstructive surgery. His areas of interest include partial and total knee arthroplasty, revision total knee arthroplasty, primary and revision total hip arthroplasty, hip abductor/gluteus tendon repairs, and robotic-assisted surgery. He did his undergraduate education at the University of Georgia where he graduated with a BS in microbiology. He then began his medical training at the Medical College of Georgia where he received his M.D. and graduated top of his class. Dr. Hansen then completed his internship and residency at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. He joined MUSC in 2020 after completing a fellowship in adult reconstruction, preservation, and resurfacing at Washington University in St. Louis.

Kelly Celek is a board-certified physician assistant working with the orthopaedic foot \& ankle team at MUSC Health. Kelly treats patients in the outpatient setting, treating common foot and ankle injuries and conditions, while also preparing patients for surgery. Prior to joining MUSC, she practiced in both orthopaedic trauma and emergency medicine specialties here in Charleston, SC. She received her Master's in Physician Assistant Studies from Wake Forest School of Medicine. Formerly from Nyack, New York, Kelly received her Bachelor's of Science in Exercise Science from the University of South Carolina with honors. While there, she was a pole vaulter on the Division 1 Track and Field team.

Dr. Nicholas Arpey is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in orthopaedic oncology and joint replacement surgery. His areas of interest include the treatment of bone and soft tissue tumors in children and adults, metastatic bone disease, total and revision hip arthroplasty, partial, total, and revision knee arthroplasty, and robotic-assisted surgery. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa before finishing his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Northwestern University. He then completed fellowship training in orthopaedic oncology at the University of Florida followed by adult reconstructive hip and knee surgery at Colorado Joint Replacement.

Dr. Shelli Ciandella is a non-surgical sports medicine physician. She specializes in diagnosing and managing musculoskeletal and sports injuries. Dr. Ciandella earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from Clemson University, where she was also part of the triathlon team. She then went on to receive her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed her Family Medicine training at the MUSC Family Medicine Residency Program in Charleston, South Carolina. She then went on to receive her certification in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the Andrews Sports Medicine \& Orthopaedic Center in Gulf Breeze, Florida. During her fellowship, she was the team physician for South Walton High School, the University of West Florida, and the Pensacola Blue Wahoos minor league baseball team. She has also covered events for the World Surf League in Hawaii. Dr. Ciandella has a specific interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound, which aids in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. She is also trained in ultrasound-guided procedures, including joint injections, soft tissue/bursal injections, and regenerative medicine procedures such as platelet-rich plasma(PRP) and other biologics. Charleston is home to Dr. Ciandella. She is looking forward to being back to take care of patients in her hometown.

Dr. Banagan is an Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon specializing in surgery for adult and pediatric patients with a broad range of spine-related conditions including scoliosis, spinal deformity, spinal stenosis, spinal tumors, and traumatic injury. Dr. Banagan earned her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University and completed her residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Her fellowship in Orthopedic Spine Surgery was conducted at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. She comes to MUSC having previously worked at Albany Medical Center and the University of Maryland Medical Center. She has served as an Associate Professor, Associate Program Director in the Department of Orthopaedics, and the Clerkship Coordinator for the medical students. She was also the Spine Fellowship Education Coordinator at the nationally recognized R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. She will serve as a board examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, is a member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for the Scoliosis Research Society, and a member of several other national organizations. She has an interest in research and has also served as a faculty mentor to countless medical students and residents.

Dr. James Lawrence is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is licensed to practice medicine in the state of South Carolina. He is also an associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Physical Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. His expertise and interests include minimally invasive spinal surgery, cervical and lumbar disk problems and stenosis, complex adult spinal deformity surgery, complex spinal trauma, and spinal tumors. After graduating from his undergraduate studies at Trinity College, Dr. Lawrence received medical and business degrees from the University of Connecticut. He then completed his internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Yale. Dr. Lawrence completed fellowship training in Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical Spine Surgery at the prestigious Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. He was then in full-time academic spine practice at Albany Medical Center in upstate New York before moving to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Dr. Lawrence has authored numerous publications in the basic science and clinical practice of spine surgery and many chapters in leading textbooks in Spinal Surgery. He has presented award-winning research internationally and at numerous national meetings, including the North American Spine Society, the Cervical Spine Research Society, the Scoliosis Research Society, the Eastern Orthopaedic Association, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has also been the recipient of numerous teaching and patient care awards over his career. Dr. Lawrence's current research interests surround the development of original techniques and instruments in spinal surgery, outcomes research, and the basic science and physiology of the intervertebral disk.
