Dr. Hilal was born and raised in nearby Orlando, FL. He obtained his undergraduate and medical school degree down at the University of Miami. He then went on to complete his internal medicine residency at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, his GI fellowship training at the University of South Florida, and an additional GI advanced endoscopy fellowship at GI Associates, LLC in Milwaukee, WI. He returned to join the USF GI faculty in August 2019.
His areas of expertise include the management of biliary strictures, acute/chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, large pre-cancerous colon polyps, and the complex endoscopic interventional procedures involved with the treatment of these diseases including Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), and Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR).
Dr. Hilal has been a member of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) since 2016. He has multiple publications and has presented at national meetings including American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and Digestive Disease Week (DDW) annual meetings.
He serves as the Vice Chief of Endoscopy at Tampa General Hospital. He enjoys being on faculty and teaching the gastroenterology fellows, residents, and medical students at USF. He received The Patrick Brady, MD GI Fellowship Teaching Award in 2022.

I felt very fortunate to have Dr. Jonathan Hilal and his care team on my side. They are very informative, knowledgeable, pleasant, and very helpful. During my last two visits with Dr. Hilal, he has given me referrals to see other doctors. I felt very at ease knowing that a physician is referring to another physician.

My experience with Dr Hilal has been life changing. I have go e through cancer ans extreme sickness and hes been able ti help me manage the intractable vommiting when the doctors ar Moffitt could not. They sent me back to Dr Hilal.

Dr Hilal was very professional, attentive to my concerns and symptoms, courteous and empathetic. He and his fellow doctor, Dr C Bertran Rodriguez, dedicated me the necessary time to establish facts and timing about my symptoms, assessments and tests carried out, current and prior medical history, examined me and provided detailed analysis of potential causes and future steps to be taken in the near future. Well impressed with the care and services received.

Dr Hilal always provides excellent care. I've seen at least 10 other GI drs in the area, Dr Hilal is by far the best. Communication, options for treatment, bed side manner is always great.
