Dr. Koay's clinical expertise and interest focus on managing general pediatric infectious diseases and caring for children and adolescents at risk for and living with HIV. She uses a family-centered approach when caring for her patients.
Before joining MUSC in 2023, Dr. Koay was a Pediatric Infectious Diseases Attending Physician at Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at George Washington University. Dr. Koay received her medical degree at the University of Melbourne in Australia and a Master of Science (Bacteriology) from the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia. She completed her pediatric residency training at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. She went on to complete her pediatric infectious diseases fellowship training at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. She also conducted research to understand better the impact of HIV on inflammation and the gut microbiome in infants and adults. Her research focuses on optimizing health outcomes of children and adolescents, specifically in people at risk for or living with HIV and sexually transmitted infections.
