Julia N. Smith is a clinical nurse who delivers integrative and evidence-based nursing care in collaboration with an inpatient multidisciplinary team of physicians, advanced practice providers, specialists, support staff and registered nurses. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Tampa and Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of South Florida. Smith is affiliated with the Florida Association of Nurse Practitioners and received the CVS Health Foundation Scholarship, McNichols Scholarship and the TGH Nurses Week Scholarship. She is also a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Dr. Ahmad has provided comprehensive family medicine care to the Tampa Bay area community since 2015. Before joining Tampa General Medical Group, he treated patients at Evara Health (formerly known as Community Health Centers of Pinellas) in St. Petersburg. Meanwhile, he served as a clinical assistant professor and clinical preceptor for medical students at Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Ahmad was also a clinical preceptor for medical students at the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville after moving to the United States from Pakistan to begin his family medicine career.

Haytham Elgharably, MD

About
Dr. Haytham Elgharably is a cardiothoracic and transplantation surgeon at USF Health, where he serves as Associate Professor and Surgical Director of the Lung Transplantation Program in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplantation. He has extensive experience in adult cardiac surgery including complex reoperations, radiation heart disease, infective endocarditis, pulmonary endarterectomy and lung transplantation. Prior to joining USF Health, Dr. Elgharably was a staff surgeon and quality officer in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute and Surgical Director of the Endocarditis Center. He earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Zagazig University in Egypt and completed a cardiothoracic surgery residency at the National Heart Institute in Cairo. Dr. Elgharably completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at The Ohio State University, an integrated thoracic surgery residency at the Cleveland Clinic and earned his PhD from Case Western Reserve University. His research focus spans both translational and clinical studies and has co-authored numerous book chapters and nearly 100 peer-reviewed papers in leading medical and surgical journals. Dr. Elgharably presents nationally and internationally on cardiac surgery and lung transplantation. He was inducted into the American Association of Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and named a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) in 2025. Dr. Elgharably is dedicated to providing transparent, state-of-the-art and compassionate care and high-quality research while committed to educating the next generation of surgeons.

Ivan Marques Borrello, MD
Myeloma
About
Dr. Borrello joined TGH Cancer Institute from the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he was the Medical Director of the Cell Therapy Lab, a member of the Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Program, member of the Cellular and Molecular Medicine Graduate Program and an Associate Professor of Oncology. He built a premier Multiple Myeloma Program and served as its director before joining Tampa General. Dr. Borrello received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia, completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Chicago and fellowship in Medical Oncology at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center at Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Borrello's clinical research interest is in developing immune-based therapies primarily for the treatment of multiple myeloma - cancer of the plasma cells but his research also extends into other disease. His published works include his participation in more than 100 peer-reviewed original research articles including the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Medicine and Science Translational Medicine and is credited with numerous inventions, patents and copyrights in areas of his medical expertise. Dr. Borrello has memberships with the American Association of Cancer Research, the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the Society for Biological Therapy.
