After attending Emory University School of Medicine, where he also completed an internship in internal medicine, he trained in neurology at Columbia University's Neurological Institute of New York. His fellowship in nerve and muscle disease was at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He practiced neurology in Atlanta for 25 years before joining MUSC in 2018. He is board certified in Neurology, Vascular Neurology and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
