Marcus Startsman Briones, M.D., MS

Dr. Marcus Briones is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in conditions affecting the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. He provides comprehensive care for patients of all ages, helping individuals find relief from pain, restore function, and return to the activities that matter most. His clinical interests include upper extremity surgery, hand and wrist conditions, shoulder and elbow disorders, fracture care, arthroscopic procedures, minimally invasive surgery, and shoulder and elbow replacement. Dr. Briones is committed to delivering personalized, patient-centered care and works closely with each patient to develop treatment plans tailored to their individual goals and needs.





Before joining MUSC Health Lancaster, Dr. Briones earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Richmond and a Master of Science in Epidemiology from the University of Virginia. He spent several years managing medical research studies for the National Institutes of Health before earning his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at MUSC Health in Charleston, serving as Chief Resident and earning the Siegling Resident Research Award. Dr. Briones then completed fellowship training in Upper Extremity Surgery at Triangle Orthopaedics in Durham, North Carolina, where he received advanced training in the treatment of complex shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand conditions. A recognized leader in his field, he was named a Top Doctor by Charlotte Magazine and brings more than a decade of private practice experience to the communities he serves.





When not caring for patients, Dr. Briones enjoys spending time with family and staying involved in lifelong learning and advances in orthopaedic care.
