Matthew John Geswell, M.D.

Dr. Matthew Geswell is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and the care of injuries and conditions affecting the joints, muscles, bones, and ligaments. A former collegiate soccer player and team captain, Dr. Geswell understands the importance of staying active and helping patients return to the activities they enjoy most. He cares for athletes and active individuals of all ages, providing personalized treatment for sports injuries, joint pain, fractures, and other orthopaedic conditions. His clinical interests include sports medicine, arthroscopic procedures of the knee, shoulder, hip, ankle, and elbow, fracture care, and knee and shoulder joint replacement. Prior to joining MUSC Health, Dr. Geswell earned his medical degree from New York Medical College, completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Geisinger Medical Center, where he served as chief resident, and completed fellowship training in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital. During his fellowship, he worked alongside the team physicians for the New York Jets. He is committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care that helps patients restore mobility, reduce pain, and get back to living life to the fullest. In his free time, Dr. Geswell enjoys spending time outdoors, golfing, skiing, fishing, boating, running, and following sports.
